In 2010, 65% of total health expenditures were accounted for by provincial/territorial governments, 30% by the private sector, 4% by direct federal expenditures on health, and 1% each by social security funds and municipal governments. Although provincial/territorial governments accounted for 65% of total health expenditures in 2010, the federal government supported these provincial/territorial expenditures through fiscal transfers.
