Key Partnerships

Responding quickly and effectively to an emergency requires much teamwork and collaboration. Health Canada works in close co-operation with the  Public Health Agency of Canada to protect the health and safety of Canadians in the event of an emergency.

Health Canada has also developed partnerships and working relationships with a number of federal, provincial-territorial and international organizations. The combination of expertise results in a stronger, more effective response to emergency situations.

Health Canada's Role

Health Canada and the Government of Canada continue to collaborate with the international community by:

  • Sharing information and knowledge on health security issues,
  • Comparing emergency preparedness and response practices and approaches, such as strengthening the federal response to the threat of international chemical and radio-nuclear terrorism, and
  • Developing collaborative arrangements for mutual assistance in the event of a radiological or nuclear emergency.

Lessons learned from Health Canada's provincial/territorial, federal and international counterparts will form the basis for future improvements.
