Updates to the List of Permitted Food Additives with Other Generally Accepted Uses and to the List of Permitted Sequestering Agents

On August 21, 2014 Health Canada's Food Directorate enabled the use of trisodium pyrophosphate in unstandardized foods and certain standardized fish products by updating the List of Permitted Food Additives with Other Generally Accepted Uses and the List of Permitted Sequestering Agents as described in the Notice of Modification to the List of Permitted Food Additives with Other Generally Accepted Uses and the List of Permitted Sequestering Agents to Enable the Use of Trisodium Pyrophosphate in Unstandardized Foods and Certain Standardized Fish Products [Reference Number NOM/ADM-0034].

The purpose of this notice is to inform stakeholders that the List of Permitted Food Additives with Other Generally Accepted Uses and the List of Permitted Sequestering Agents have been updated so they are consistent with those modifications as described in the above Notice of Modification.

Specifically, the text of column 4 of item S.11 of the List of Permitted Food Additives with Other Generally Accepted Uses has been updated in both the French and English version of the list.  Also, updates to Column 3 of items S.1, S.3 and S.7 of the English version of the List of Permitted Sequestering Agents have been made.
